Shankar: Double Violin (sympathetic effect)
V. Lakshminarayana: Conductor (tala keeping)
The 10-string double violin, which is heard for the first time on this album, is a double-bodied instrument conceived and designed by Shankar and built by Ken Parker of Stuyvesant Sound. The necks can be played individually or collectively; when played individually, the strings of the other neck create sympathetic effects, overtones.
Among its many possibilities, the double violin can cover the range of the whole string orchestra (although only the range of the violin and viola used on this album).
This album is dedicated to John McLaughlin
