In my opinion, this is the record where the Beatles really got into the groove and found their streak. This is entirely, I think, consisting of original material from Lennon/McCartney and has danceable tracks like the opening one or Can't Buy Me Love. The songwriting still revolves mostly around themes like love and one could say hasn't evolved fully. Looking back, this is a basic rock and roll record that does one thing best, it gets the basics right. One can say with the benefit of hindsight, that more 'evolved' bands came in the coming decades, but they were standing, in one way or the other, on the shoulders of giants. And one of those giants were the Beatles and this record sets the template for a rock band writing their own songs.
After all, it's only through a process of one artist after the other, that music moves along. The Beatles took Chuck Berry 's sound and created something magnificent around it. In my opinion, pre - Rubber Soul, this is their finest work.
